As I was Walking to Town One Day

Listen to the whole song on Stinky Cake or hear it here:

Here's a new (old) song for making animal sounds! Tired of Old MacDonald? Don't want to be confined to the Farmyard? Try this song! You can even change the destination and ask the child(ren) to think what they might hear on the way to school, the swamp, the North Pole – you name it! It's a zipper song, so just zip in as many new animals as you'd like.

Lyrics:

As I went walking to town one day
I met an elephant on the way
And what do you think that elephant did say?
(trumpet like an elephant!)
But I kept walking!

Directions: I start out using a bag of tippy toes puppets, which I can insert 2 fingers into the legs and make them walk. But when those aren't around, I walk my pointer and middle finger on my palm. You may also use pictures or books to give your visual learners a cue.

Age Range: 18 months – 5 years old

Purpose: Identification of animal sounds, vocabulary, singing
