Duckie Duddle

Listen to the whole song on Tiny Tunes or hear it here:

I'm a duck fan - and so are the children I teach! Check out "Ducks Like Rain!", too – it was the Song of the Month in April 2007! Make duck sticks (see pattern on the Ducks Like Rain page) – or use your hands to pantomime the song! There's a wonderful Big Book –- 5 Little Ducks – from Scholastic Books. Have a duckie month! QUACK!

Chant:

Little Duckie Duddle, went swimming in a puddle
A puddle, a puddle quite small.
He said it doesn't matter, how much I splish and splatter
I'm only a duckie, after all - QUACK QUACK!

Movements:

these are what I do, but feel free to make up your own!

Line 1: put hands together and swim back and forth in front of body Line
2: continue swimming until "small" - separate hands to indicate a little space
Line 3: waggle finger in front of you, then slap thighs to splish and splatter
Line 4: Point to self, then make "duckbill hands" in front and open and close while quacking!

Age Range: 2 – 4 years old

Purpose: Motor coordination, singing, pretend play

Duckie Ideas : There are MANY excellent books about ducks, including my favorite: Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey. And duck songs? Well - try "Ducks Like Rain" on my H.U.M. - Highly Usable Music cd, or "Baby Duck" on Sticky Bubble Gum, for starters. Then there's the wonderful Raffi rendition of "Six Little Ducks", or the old standard, "Five Little Ducks Went Out to Play".
