by Carole Stephens © 2003

Listen to the whole song on "H.U.M. – All Year Long". or hear it here:

This CD has won a Parents' Choice Award, and this song is a Finalist in the Best Song category for the Children's Music Web Awards! Black Bat Farm can be done with a call/response format during the verses.

Lyrics:

There was a farm (echo)
A spooky little farm (echo)
The spookiest farm (echo)
That you ever did see (echo)
A field's on the farm, the farm's full of spooks...BOO!

(refrain:)
And the black bats flew all around, all around
The black bats flew all around, oooohhhh!
The black bats flew all around, all around
The black bats flew all around.

And in that field (echo) There is a vine (echo)
The creepiest vine (echo) That you ever did see (echo)
The VINE...Field...Farm...Spooks...BOO!

(refrain)

And on that vine (echo) There is a pumpkin (echo)
The cutest little pumpkin (echo) That you ever did see (echo)
The pumpkin's on the VINE...Field...Farm...Spooks...BOO!

(refrain)

And in that pumpkin (echo) There are some seeds (echo)
The slimiest seeds (echo) That you ever did see (echo)
The seeds are in the pumpkin... Vine...Field...Farm...Spooks...BOO!

(refrain)

Tune:

Loosely based on "The Green Grass Grew All Around" in a minor key! On my recording there's slightly spooky organ music by Donna Rubinson to blow in the song!

This song can be done with no props/visuals children flap their arms like bat-wings during each refrain.
OR
Make a feltboard visual a felt barn, bats, green yarn vine, pumpkins and seeds.
OR
Make a bats from construction paper or funfoam (pattern below), attach to a "scrunchy" covered hair-elastic so the children can fly the bats during each refrain.

Age range: older 3's 7 years old

Purpose: sequencing, memory, non-Halloween seasonal song, gross motor skill
